Please be advised that we are moving everyone on cpanel1.netwisp.com to a new server at 12AM Saturday morning CDT so that we can shut the server down on 8/18/2005.

The main reason for the migration is that the current server is running RedHat Linux v9 which was discontinued in early 2004 and we want to get everyone moved over to a server that is running CentOS v4.1 (its based on the latest RedHat Enterprise 4 Linux distro) which will be supported for many years to come. By performing this upgrade to your service, we will be able to continue providing reliable and secure hosting for your sites.

The new server is also a dual 3 Ghz Xeon server which is 50% faster than the dual 2 Ghz Xeon server that is currently hosting your sites so you'll get a performance boost as well.

While your websites will not have any downtime from this migration, you may wish to close/disable any dynamic content sections on your current websites (like your forums) prior to the start of the move so that any updates (like new posts) aren't lost during the migration. You can then open them on the new server after the move so that as visitors start to arrive at the website on the new server, they'll see the sections reopened.

For our customers who have sites on the server, we will be sending you an email with your new IP information so that you can access your sites before the DNS switches over.

Finally we will update this topic during the migration to keep everyone informed with the status of the transfer along with any issues that come up.

Feel free to contact us at support@netwisp.com should you have any questions about this migration.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter!

Good morning.

We have migrated about half of the accounts so far, but that total is misleading because we've moved about 75% of the data. So we should be done in a couple more hours at this rate. The process is taking longer than we thought for the following reasons:

1) cPanel's transfer account method failed about 40 minutes into the transfer of the largest account on the server. This required us to manually redo its transfer.

2) We're not getting good transfer rates between the servers (the above mentioned large account took 2 hours to transfer alone for example). Overall, we're only able to push about 4GB an hour to the new server which is less than half of what we should normally expect to get.

3) There are other bugs in cPanel's account transfer option that is causing issues which we're trying to catch as they come up.

As I said above, the process should take a couple more hours at this rate and I'll update this thread with more information as it becomes available.

Feel free to contact us at support@netwisp.com should you notice any problems with your website and we'll be glad to assist you in getting it resolved.

Thanks!

Greetings,

The migration to the new server has completed and we've setup an IP forwarding rule so all the web services traffic (email, http, ftp, dns) is being directed to the new server even if the old IP is used. So that should take care of any further dns migration problems.

Please contact us at support@netwisp.com should you need any assistance with your website(s) on the new server and we'll be glad to help you out.

Thanks for your patience and understanding while we performed this upgrade to your services! We hope you like your website on the new, faster server!
